Disco Night for Sick Kids Edinburgh?

Saturday, 20th February 2010

Disco for Sick Kids Hospital Edinburgh,

I was contacted by Mrs Wendy Campbell and asked if I could DJ at an event that she was holding to raise funds for the hospital, Eve, her daughter, was attending the hospital, with a very serious illness.

Having supported the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, after having my own child in the hospital, I was more than pleased to offer my services.

I started the night by telling a few of my  “own jokes” improvised on the spot,  Then it was on with the disco, Raining Men, Abba, Bay City Rollers, Chart songs and Disco Classics, it was not long before we had a happy group of dancers on the dance floor.

After the break for the buffet, it was “Bingo time” I called the bingo, something that I had not done in years, as over the night, I was DJ, Comedian and Bingo caller.

I have just received an e mail from Wendy advising that she expects the amount to be in the region of £1700 for the night,

Well done Wendy, for a fantastic night.

Review of the year 2009

At the start of 2009 I once again wondered what the year would have in store with the responsibilities of making sure that each booking received the best possible service.

Weddings, where the emphasis is on making sure that everything would go smoothly and in accordance with the wishes the Bride and Groom,  family events, celebrating   30th, 40th 50th Birthdays,  Silver and Ruby weddings,  plus Retirement parties,  not forgetting the Children’s entertainments,

Looking back over the year, I am pleased to say that everything was as I had hoped for.  All the Wedding discos, along with the other evening events, were received with the customer satisfaction that I demand of my self in providing the professionalism and quality of service.

On the subject of Children’s parties, one of my memories of 2009,  is of a girl at a  primary school party (arranged by the Head teacher who was moving to a new school) asking if I can come back again the next  Friday, as she said it was her best day ever at school.

I was also very pleased to be asked back to attend children’s birthday that I had covered in 2008,

This year, I was once again, asked to step in at the last minute, for Weddings and functions, where the disco providers, for one reason or another, failed to turn up.  One hotel even requested that “if I could  be at the hotel within 45 minutes” as the wedding disco provider they had booked had not turned up, and some 150 guests + Bride & Groom were left without a disco.

To sum up the year 2009, from Edinburgh to Clydebank,  Eyemouth to Perth,  Burntisland to Dundee, with guests numbers  15 to 250+  Weddings, Birthdays, and other functions. in two words.

Scott and Amanda's wedding Garvock House Hotel Dunfermline

weddingsAnother great Wedding   17th July 2009

The venue for this wedding was Garvock House Dunfermline http://www.garvock.co.uk/

Mr Scott Robertson was marrying Amanda on 17th July 2009 with the reception at the 4 star Garvock House Hotel in Dunfermline.

This booking had come from a recommendation from my friend Charlie Abel of the Ceilidh Band “Iron Broo”     http://www.ironbroo.co.uk/index.html .

The groom had asked Charlie if he knew of a quality DJ that could play in between the time that the band were not on stage.   Charlie recommended Edinburgh Entertainments with myself as DJ.

Once I had set up the equipment and using the lasers and small smoke machine, (that because of the quality of equipment did not set off the hotel smoke alarms) I played the first wedding song (the theme from Shrek 2) it was not long before the full wedding party were on the dance   floor.

With the wedding waltz over, I handed over to Charlie and the guys from “Iron Broo for the Ceilidh part of the wedding.

Charlie and the band soon had everyone dancing to Reels, Gay Gordons, Barn dances, plus lots more, before once again handing over to me for disco requests.

Staff at the Garvock House hotel, who had worked hard all day and night to make Scott and Amanda’s day special, (they were rewarded with applause) at the close of the evening, before all the guests took part in the song “loch Lomand”

With the hotel checking that my equipment had been P.A.T. Certificated, (required to make sure electrical equipment is safe) I set up for the evening ahead.

Starting with the cutting of the cake, (made in the shape of The Sydney Opera House)

Blair and Rachel first meet  at  Bondi Beach, Australia some years before

Moving on to the first dance ( Chantal  Krevazuk – Feels like home) The wedding reception was under way.

After placing   “Music Request Forms on all the tables”  it was not long before guests  were advising on music for the evening.  Abba,  Beatles, etc. Rachel had e mailed that she would like The Proclaimers   “Life with you”   Blair songs,  Hall & Oates “Maneater”  Bellamy Brothers  Let Your Love Flow,  also lots of 70s  80s .90s  plus chart music,  not forgetting  “Disco Classic’s”  helped keep the dance floor busy.

I also enjoyed seeing the over 60s getting up on the dance floor to my selection of slow mood music, but also notice them dancing to “The Boy does nothing” etc.

Wow What a weekend

Friday Night  I attended  Kimberley’s 10 birthday party at St Cuthbert’s Church Hall, Cambuslang, just outside Glasgow.

We had about 25 guests, Mr Ross my assistant, helped  start the party with our very funny chairs routine , “He has got this down to a fine art” with all the children soon laughing at our antics, before moving into the fun and games. The show was looking good with our latest light show.

Time fly’s when you are having a good time, before long it was Party food time, Burgers, Hot Dogs and lots of side dishes, (Nice work from Kimberly’s Mum and Dad) all the children were soon tucking in.

In the second half of the show it was Magic time, (even I don’t know how that book was blank, then coloured in) someone at the party must have had magic powers. We finished up with disco time. What a great party.  Thanks Kimberley for asking us to your 10th birthday party, “You were a star”

Saturday Evening

Cara & Fraser’s 11th Birthday  (Shorts and Shades Hawaiian Beach Theme)

George Watsons Galleon Club was the venue for this party.   What a party it was. With over 50 guests to the party, all the children had made a great effort to comply with the theme of the party,  Hawaiian grass skirts, Garlands, Sunglasses, lots of fake tan, plus lots more, everyone looked the part.   With the evening sunshine come in through windows, our lights did not have much effect, but that did not stop the party fun.   Disco music,  games, and interactivities,  not forgetting the “Skip around the room for our Birthday VIP’s “ Once again the children, who have been to other themed parties, such as “Hollywood” and “Film and T.V. Stars” made it a great event,  I found it funny when one boy asked me if I remembered him dressed as Amy Winehouse?  Yes I did, because at that party, I did think he was a girl at the time.

Thanks once again to Cara & Fraser for this great themed party.

Sunday Afternoon

Ryan’s 11th Birthday Party

Gibson Craig Halls, Lanark road, Currie, was the venue for this party, this is one of the best halls to hold a party, nice big hall, with the ability to block out the day light, also great kitchen facilities,

Ryan’s guests arrived to find that we had set up our laser light disco show, with smoke effects, the party got under way, with our first game, and sweet as prizes.  With everyone participating in the party, we soon got a great atmosphere going, with Ryan as our V.I.P.

Food time arrived with the hall being big enough to set the tables at one side, and all the guests seated.

I was asked by one of the party goes, “are we going to do “Musical Statues” I told him yes but that I would be place my own ideas into the game,  All the children were soon enjoying the unique twists that I incorprated into this game.

At the end of the party we did our “Rock star guitar game” with guitars going to the best Girl and Boy for there Air Guitar work not forgetting one for the V.I.P. birthday boy.

Once again a great party,  with happy party guests.      Thanks Ryan, could not have done the party without you!!!!!
