Tips on Holding a Children's party

Tips on planning a children's party

When is the best time to hold the party?

A weekday is an perfect time, it is less hectic for everybody,  it will not clash with other parties and venues, I can bee more readily available, it can be at a time of your choosing. If a Saturday or Sunday ideally 12-2pm or 4-6pm. These times work around normal children's meal times lunch 1pm and tea 5pm.  We also offer an evening party for older children 7.30pm-9.30pm. Variations in time, and additional hours, can be catered for at weddings, christenings and communions.

Party Food.

Having been to lots of children's parties I have noticed what food is eaten by children, and what food is left, (I don't like that food) The best way to make sure that the food is enjoyed is not to make to many choices. Here is list of children's party that I have seen at successful parties. Fruit Grapes (seedless), Orange segments, Diced Apple Squares, Chocolate Banana, (if all the grapes are not eaten) you can place them in the party bag's. Crisps should only be plain, (placed in a big bowl to let the children help themselves) this way children who like crisps, will be happy. and children who don't, won't feel that they have to eat them. Chips & Pizza Most children like chips, (Fries to go) can be made in the microwave, and Pizza only about 15 min's in the oven. Other Fun Food After Eight Mints, Dark Chocolate Orange, Fun size Yoghurt Pots, Bread Sticks with cheese dip, and the Sweet Bowl, (Kit-Kat, Milky Ways, Chocolate Buttons, Jaffa Cakes, etc.) any that are not eaten can once again be put in the party bags.
Sausage Rolls and Mini Sausages are a good choice.

Food that is not very good at children's parties (just ask any children) Sandwiches, Cheese, Egg, Meat, The number of times that I have seen sandwiches left over, would be about 70% of all parties that I have attended.

Drinks. Robinsons Fruit Shoot drinks, (don't spill over and make a mess) also small Fruit Drinks in boxes with the straw on the side (Ribena style drinks) Small cans of Iron Bru, Coca cola, or Pepsi are good for older children.
The above is only a guide (ask your own children what they would like)

Timing of the Party
If your party starts at 12.00pm ask guests and parents, to arrive (11.50pm) in time to get coats off, hand over any presents and cards. and say hello to friends. If your party is going to finish at 2.00pm, ask parents to be back by 1.50pm. (children don't like to see friends leaving), then being left to wondering where Mum or Dad is.

Buying a birthday gift
Gift vouchers
Vouchers from Book/CD shops, Video/Games stores, Cinema chains, are great presents, as it give the birthday child the opportunity to buy a present that "they" would love, Play Station game are able to be purchased with a few Gift Vouchers helping to the cost. Try to find out if the child as any special activities, (Swimming, Horse Riding, Football, Ice Skating, etc.) Gift vouchers for this will be loved. not only by the child, but the parents will also be pleased. Subscription Gift. Example The cost of joint the Beano or Dandy Club for a year is £15.00 for this the child gets an assortment of goodies posted to them throughout the year, (children from about 5 years old love getting letters addressed to them) this is a present that last all year long. Other Subscription Gifts, could be from Football Clubs, Pop Band fan clubs, etc. * When sending out invitations, you could note that you child would love Gift vouchers form a store, Film Center, etc. (this is a great help to parents who are always in a dilemma about what to buy)

The DOs & Don't at the Party

Do try to get as many helping hands as you can, the most successful parties I have attended, have lots of helper's.
Do try to make sure all the children are happy, (if children are upset when Mum or Dad drops them up), Ask Mum or Dad to stay around until the child settles in the party fun. Do Make up name tags for children up to the age of 7 years old. (this helps them get to know each other) Cousin's and family friends, may not know children from the Birthday person's school.

Do Make up BIG name tags (could be with a smiley face) for anyone over the age of 16 years, for example if the Birthday child is called John, then name tags should read John's Mum, John's Dad, John's Auntie Debbie, John's Big Sister Janice, etc. (this will help children (under the age of 7) who may not know John's Auntie Debbie, identify that she is one of the party helper's) Do Make up "Thank-you cards" to place in the party bags example John and is family, would like to thank you for attending his 7th Birthday, at the Church Hall, you helped make his party a big hit. This will make the guest who have come to the party feel that just by going to the part they contributed to the success of the party. it also n remembering to thank everyone

Don't Give out hooter's, and blowers, in the middle of the party, (children will start blowing them), and with the space of about 30 seconds they will all be doing it, you should place any items like this in party bags for giving out at the end.
Don't Worry about children being over excited, (try not to tell them off, in front of friends) after all it is a very special event for every child. Don't Let the Birthday Child open presents at the party. (wait until you get home, or if the party is in your own home, wait until guest have left).
The above are only suggestions
Hope you have a good PARTY !!!!!!
